Brewer Porch
Brewer Porch Children’s Center serves as an educational facility for special needs children in Tuscaloosa, AL. The goal of this project shall be to create a sensory friendly and functional space for the students and faculty at this facility.
Concept Development
Like the growth and development of a flower, the design for the Brewer Porch Children’s Center derives from the idea of bloom. Bloom is defined as a state or time of high development or achievement, and the Brewer Porch Children’s Center holds those goals for its students. The design will utilize muted pastel colors of blue, green, lavender, and pink as well as rhythm and movement of pattern and texture throughout the space. Varying shapes and colors help to stimulate learning and attention from the students, but the muted hue of the colors helps to prevent overstimulation of the students. Varying curved and rectilinear shapes of furniture provides the perspective of flowers growing. With the emphasis on learning and growth, the objective of the design is to capture the concept of bloom to facilitate those goals at the Brewer Porch Children’s Center.
